This technique used to be called things like decoupage and collage. But now we say “mixed media” and it sound so much more sophisticated. …and mysterious! Because what’s it made out of!?
Well, to create these pieces I’ve layered mostly acrylic paint and different kinds of paper. It is similar to the process we used in kindergarten – tearing and gluing and painting – I find it to be very satisfying.
The result is a piece that has more texture and subtle messages literally behind the scene. They’re layered with symbolism There’s something so special about taking old maps, sheet music, or book pages and giving them new meaning. In a way it’s a mosaic of emotion.
Here are a few of my favorites.
